National Training Framework - Group 6

This section provides everything that you need to know about Group 6 of the National Training Framework.

Target Audience

Aimed at: Public Sector Leaders.

Those in leadership roles have a responsibility to foster a culture and infrastructure in which violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence are acknowledged as issues which may affect the workforce, the client group and friends and family.

Group Outline

It is very important that those who lead and run our Public Services in Wales support their staff to meet the requirements of the National Training Framework.  

The Strengthening Leadership Series is a series of short films, each on an important issue related to violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence. The films offer short bursts of information which can be used to shape strategic direction, share within teams and improve knowledge.

This film reflects on the role of senior leaders in driving through the changes that will be bought about by the introduction of this Bill.

Multi agency approaches have proven effective in tackling domestic abuse and the Welsh Government endorses and supports collaborative approaches at all levels of work – at a strategic level, at an operational or middle management level and in frontline practice

Strengthening Leadership Series: Episode 4 - Domestic Violence Perpetrator Programmes (DVPPs) - an important local resource

This film explores the role of DVPPs and how they can assist in the work to end violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Strengthening Leadership Series: Episode 5 - Learning the lessons of Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs)

This film outlines the DHR process and the main lessons which are emerging from DHRs undertaken to date. These lessons should directly impact on practice now.  It is only if these lessons are translated into practice change, that future homicides can be prevented.

This was made in partnership with Frank Mullane of Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA).

Strengthening Leadership Series: Episode 6 - The National Training Framework

This film explains how the National Training Framework works.

The National Training Framework on violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence has been developed in partnership with stakeholders and in consultation with survivors to offer training to everyone who needs it.

Strengthening Leadership Series: Episode 7 - Education

This film has been developed by the Welsh Government for Head teachers and school leadership teams on violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence.

The film was developed in partnership with Welsh Women’s Aid and Against Violence and Abuse and provides a summary of the good practice guide recently published by the Welsh Government.

It aims to provide basic and broad advice as to how to begin implementing a whole school approach to tackling violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence and the vital role of education in this regard.

The Strengthening Leadership Series: Episode 8 - The game

In September 2015 the Welsh Government formed a partnership with the Caerphilly Youth Forum with the aim of sharing the voices of young people with the Welsh Public Service leadership.

This film is based entirely on what these young people want you to understand about their experience of violence and abuse and the messages they want the leaders of Public Services in Wales to hear.

The Strengthening Leadership Series: Episode 9

In September 2012 Kim Buckley (46), her daughter Kayleigh (17) and her granddaughter Kimberley (6 months) were killed in a house fire started by Kimberley’s father.

Here Gwyneth Swain, Kim’s mother, Kayleigh’s grandmother and Kimberley’s great grandmother shares her story. 

Her aim in doing so is to prevent other murders of this kind from happening.

The other voice you hear in this film is Jan Pickles, who worked with Mrs Swain to write the Domestic Homicide Review of this case.

Strengthening Leadership Series: Episode 10 - Rape and Sexual Violence

We have a shared responsibility to help and support victims of rape and sexual violence in Wales. The film raises awareness about theses issues and also highlights actions that can be taken forward to create an environment where victims feel confident they will be believed and supported, together with making Wales a safer place to live in.

This film has been developed by the Welsh Government with the help of New Pathways.

Strengthening Leadership Series: Episode 11 - What is stalking? 

This film has been developed by the Welsh Government in conjunction with the Network for Surviving Stalking (NSS).

The film raises awareness about what constitutes stalking and highlights actions that can be taken by Public Service Leaders to minimise risks to, and also help support and protect staff and clients which the respective organisation works with.

Strengthening Leadership Series: Episode 12 - 'Ask and Act'

'Ask and Act’ is a principles based approach to targeted enquiry. Its aim is to increase identification and support for those who experience violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence. 

Its introduction allows professionals to be better able to identify the signs of these issue, to be prepared and able to ask their clients appropriate questions about them, and offer specialist help quickly.

How the Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Act, the Well-Being of Future Generations Act and the Social Services and Well-being Act interlink.

Strengthening Leadership Series Episode 14 - Progress report of implementation of the VAWDASV Act

This film provides a summary of the Welsh Government's first report, covering the period between October 2015 and March 2017.

Strengthening Leadership Series Episode 15 - Survivor Engagement

Survivor engagement is crucial in the development of all work relating to Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (VAWDASV). 

Hear directly from survivors and the National Advisors for Violence against Women, other forms of Gender ­Based Violence, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence about what survivor engagement is and why it is so important.  

This film is crucial to anyone developing strategy, policy or practice related to VAWDASV.
